  8. <h2>Job description</h2>
  9. <p>FSFE was established in 2001 as a multi-cultural distributed
  10. organisation with volunteers and staff distributed across various
  11. European countries. Its approach is that of a result driven NGO with
  12. emphasis on constructive dialogue for lasting political and legal
  13. change. As an environment FSFE has grown out of the Free Software
  14. community and is ideally suited to motivated individuals capable of
  15. driving projects and initiatives forward.</p>
  16. <p newsteaser="yes">FSFE is seeking applicants for coordinator and staff
  17. positions in our legal department, the Freedom Task Force. The FTF coordinator
  18. and staff work in cooperation with a mixed team of volunteers and employees to
  19. support FSFE's mission.</p>
  20. <h2>Responsibilities:</h2>
  21. <ul>
  22. <li>Organising FSFE's legal activities, primarily through providing FSFE with
  23. strategic and tactical guidance regarding legal situations in Europe;</li>
  24. <li>Answering questions submitted to the FTF through email and the online
  25. tracker;</li>
  26. <li>Delivering training courses on Free Software licensing and related
  27. topics;</li>
  28. <li>Delivering consultancy on Free Software licensing and related topics;</li>
  29. <li>Facilitating and expanding the European Legal Network maintained by
  30. FSFE;</li>
  31. <li>Driving documentation and communication initiatives through the European
  32. Legal Network to create generic knowledge for the Free Software community as a
  33. whole;</li>
  34. <li>Facilitating meetings and conferences for European Free Software
  35. stakeholders;</li>
  36. <li>Delivering speeches and engaging with panels at conferences to spread the
  37. word about FTF activities and services.</li>
  38. </ul>
  39. <h2>Required qualifications:</h2>
  40. <ul>
  41. <li>Coordinative abilities</li>
  42. <li>Negotiation abilities</li>
  43. <li>Business experience</li>
  44. <li>Knowledge of the Free Software Community</li>
  45. <li>Personal and professional reliability</li>
  46. <li>The ability to speak confidently in public</li>
  47. <li>An understanding of computing technology</li>
  48. <li>Proficiency in Free Software (GNU/Linux, OpenOffice.org)</li>
  49. <li>Fluent English</li>
  50. </ul>
  51. <h2>Useful experience would include:</h2>
  52. <ul>
  53. <li>Experience with team work</li>
  54. <li>Experience in dealing with deadlines</li>
  55. <li>Experience in small team management</li>
  56. <li>Two years practical work experience in coordination or technology</li>
  57. <li>An understanding of German</li>
  58. </ul>
  59. <h2>It would be beneficial to have:</h2>
  60. <ul>
  61. <li>An interest in understanding how licences work and why</li>
  62. <li>An interest in understanding how law works (but not specific items)</li>
  63. <li>An interest in understanding how Free Software projects work</li>
  64. <li>An interest in understanding how businesses work</li>
  65. <li>An understanding of French and/or Spanish</li>

  67. <h2>Working Conditions</h2>
  68. <ul>
  69. <li>The FTF coordinator and staff usually work from an office environment, but
  70. the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non standard
  71. workplaces. Work from the home office is possible.</li>
  72. <li>The FTF coordinator and staff usually work a standard work week, but
  73. additionally will regularly have work on evenings, weekends, and overtime
  74. hours to accommodate activities such as meetings of the General Assembly and
  75. representing the organisation at public events.</li>
