  10. FSFE is a charity dedicated to empowering users to control technology.
  11. We are working to build freedom in digital society. We operate in a lively
  12. environment with volunteers from many countries. We are looking for
  13. students who can join our team in Berlin for three months or more as a
  14. mandatory part of their studies or before graduation.</p>

  25. What you'll do:

  28. Contribute to <a href="/work.html">FSFE's ongoing projects</a>, working with one or more of our staff and volunteers.

  31. Communicate with contacts from the FSFE community, NGO, industry, and public administrations.

  34. Coordinate volunteers and others in the work on various projects.

  48. <h2>Basic details</h2>
  49. <p>
  50. <strong>Location:</strong> Berlin, Germany. Please note the FSFE has no ability to help
  51. with accommodation or travel, you will need to cover this yourself and
  52. arrange this prior to your internship.</p>
  53. <p><strong>Duration:</strong> 3 months full time at 35 hours per week, starting as agreed. If the internship is a mandatory part of your education, the internship duration can be longer.</p>
  54. <p><strong>Compensation:</strong> This internship is salaried with a basic salary of €450 per month.</p>
  55. <h2>Qualifications</h2>
  56. <p>
  57. You should have some experience or a considerable interest in Free Software.
  58. Your field of study doesn't matter, but you should be able to relate it to
  59. our work. Traditionally, a lot of interns in the FSFE have a legal or
  60. political science background, but we've also had interns working with us
  61. with a more technical or other social science background.
  62. </p>
  63. <h2>Formal requirements</h2>
  64. <p>
  65. You must be fluent in English and will be required to show that you
  66. can legally work in Germany; either by being an EU citizen, or
  67. by having a residence and work permit for the duration. The FSFE
  68. can not help you in getting either of these documents, but we will
  69. accept them if you have them.

  72. The internship must be a formal part of your education, or, if you
  73. do the internship on a voluntary basis, you must do the internship
  74. before you graduate and in direct connection with your studies.
  75. </p>
  76. <p>
  77. You must also have a German tax number which you get by registering
  78. with the residents registration office (Einwohnermeldeamt) in Germany.
  79. This should ideally be done before starting the internship, or at
  80. latest on the first days of your internship.

  83. If the internship is a formal part of your education, you also need
  84. health insurance which is valid in Germany, for example the European
  85. Health Insurance Card.

  87. <h2>Application deadline</h2>
  88. <p>
  89. There is no fixed application deadline for these positions. We accept
  90. interns regularly throughout the year, but to facilitate with our planning
  91. and to increase the chances of us being able to accommodate you for an
  92. internship, you should ideally send your application at least six months
  93. before your intended starting date.
