  10. One month, one campaign, one goal: getting rid of non-free
  11. software advertisements on public websites. In four weeks, FSFE received
  12. reports concerning <a
  13. href="/activities/pdfreaders/buglist.html">2162 European institutions who
  14. advertise non-free PDF readers</a>. Apart from the 305 activists who
  15. participated to the search, 1500 individuals, 46 businesses and 38
  16. organisations signed our <a href="/activities/pdfreaders/petition.html">Petition
  17. For The Removal Of Proprietary Software Advertising On Public Websites</a>.
  18. Now that the hunt is over, it's time to chase up those websites which encourage
  19. visitors to jeopardise their freedom. It's time to stamp out the ads!</p>
  20. <p>Highly motivated volunteers searched the internet for public websites that
  21. advertise non-free software and reported <a
  22. href="/activities/pdfreaders/buglist.html">2162 institutions</a>. Some of
  23. them, like Massimo Barbieri and Lucas Bickel individually reported more than
  24. 350! Alessandro Albini, Rainer Schmitz, and Pavel Kharitonov
  25. also made a remarkable contribution in reporting around 50 institutions
  26. each.</p>
  27. <p>But the FSFE won't stop with a list of institutions. In the coming weeks,
  28. FSFE will <a href="/activities/pdfreaders/letter.html">send
  29. letters to the institutions</a> to draw their attention to their unfair
  30. advertising. In the name of the signatories of the <a
  31. href="/activities/pdfreaders/petition.html">petition</a>, FSFE will ask the
  32. institutions to either remove any recommendation for non-free software from
  33. their website, or give a choice of several programs.</p>
  34. <p>Wherever you are, whatever time you have, you can contribute to the removal
  35. of non-free software adverts on public websites. The amazing work of the ads
  36. hunters and our <a
  37. href="/contribute/translators/translators.html">translators</a> has laid a
  38. firm foundation for the next phase. Now it is up to you to enable us to get
  39. things done. You can make a difference! Help us to <a
  40. href="/activities/pdfreaders/letter.html">translate the letter into missing
  41. languages</a> or <a href="">donate to the PDF readers
  42. campaign fund</a> to help cover the 1600 EUR for postage and the extra costs
  43. of administration to deliver the messages throughout Europe. Help us stamp out
  44. the ads!</p>
