  9. One month, one campaign, one goal: getting rid of non-free
  10. software advertisements on public websites. In four weeks, FSFE received
  11. reports concerning <a
  12. href="/campaigns/pdfreaders/buglist.html">2162 European institutions who
  13. advertise non-free PDF readers</a>. Apart from the 305 activists who
  14. participated to the search, 1500 individuals, 46 businesses and 38
  15. organisations signed our <a href="/campaigns/pdfreaders/petition.html">Petition
  16. For The Removal Of Proprietary Software Advertising On Public Websites</a>.
  17. Now that the hunt is over, it's time to chase up those websites which encourage
  18. visitors to jeopardise their freedom. It's time to stamp out the ads!</p>
  19. <p>Highly motivated volunteers searched the internet for public websites that
  20. advertise non-free software and reported <a
  21. href="/campaigns/pdfreaders/buglist.html">2162 institutions</a>. Some of
  22. them, like Massimo Barbieri and Lucas Bickel individually reported more than
  23. 350! Alessandro Albini, Rainer Schmitz, and Pavel Kharitonov
  24. also made a remarkable contribution in reporting around 50 institutions
  25. each.</p>
  26. <p>But the FSFE won't stop with a list of institutions. In the coming weeks,
  27. FSFE will <a href="/campaigns/pdfreaders/letter.html">send
  28. letters to the institutions</a> to draw their attention to their unfair
  29. advertising. In the name of the signatories of the <a
  30. href="/campaigns/pdfreaders/petition.html">petition</a>, FSFE will ask the
  31. institutions to either remove any recommendation for non-free software from
  32. their website, or give a choice of several programs.</p>
  33. <p>Wherever you are, whatever time you have, you can contribute to the removal
  34. of non-free software adverts on public websites. The amazing work of the ads
  35. hunters and our <a
  36. href="/contribute/translators/translators.html">translators</a> has laid a
  37. firm foundation for the next phase. Now it is up to you to enable us to get
  38. things done. You can make a difference! Help us to <a
  39. href="/campaigns/pdfreaders/letter.html">translate the letter into missing
  40. languages</a> or <a href="/donate/donate.html">donate to the PDF readers
  41. campaign fund</a> to help cover the 1600 EUR for postage and the extra costs
  42. of administration to deliver the messages throughout Europe. Help us stamp out
  43. the ads!</p>
