10.
Freedom in Multimedia

11.

12.
Multimedia in general and audio in particular were areas dominated almost
13. exclusively by proprietary software. Within the "A GNU/Linux Audio
14. distribution" (AGNULA) project, a group of European universities, companies and
15. organisations — among them the Free Software Foundation Europe
16. (FSFE) — set out to change this in 2001.

17.
Version 1.0 of AGNULA was finally released in early 2004.

18.
Using AGNULA

19.
If you are a user

20.
Anyone is welcome, even encouraged to use and participate in AGNULA. The
21. best starting point is the AGNULA project and
22. community web site.

23.
If you are a vendor

24.
Anyone is welcome to provide distributions, products or services based upon
25. and under the designation AGNULA, provided you comply with the rules of the <a
26. href="license.html">AGNULA trademark license.

27.
Background

28.
This section contains some of the background and historical information
29. about AGNULA.

30.
Information Society Technologies

31.
33.
AGNULA managed to be accepted as European Commission project IST-2001-34879
34. and was funded from April 1st, 2002 until March 31st, 2004. The project was
35. coordinated by Nicola Bernardini from Centro Tempo Reale, Florence, Italy.

36.
The project was finished to the full satisfaction of the European Commission
37. and you can <a
38. href=";tpl=article&BrowsingType=Features&ID=64618">
39. read the final article about AGNULA on the IST results page of the European
40. Commission.

41.
FSFE Contributions

42.
One seminal role of the FSFE inside the AGNULA EU project was to take care
43. of the legal issues, decide upon acceptable licensing policies and care about
44. legal maintainability. Other tasks were making sure that Free Software
45. community interests are heard, helping that information is provided in the best
46. possible way and work on the dissemination of the final results:
