  11. As a non-profit, non-governmental organisation, Free Software
  12. Foundation Europe works to create general understanding and
  13. support for Free Software and Open Standards. The following
  14. activities are concrete actions that we take in the areas of
  15. public awareness, policy advocacy and legal support.

  19. Since its foundation in 2001, the FSFE has been working every
  20. single day to further Free Software in Europe and beyond. With
  21. our concrete activities, based upon the <a
  22. href="/about/ourwork.html">three pillars of our work</a>, we
  23. focus on protecting and extending user rights. Some of our
  24. actions run for many years, some are aimed at short-term
  25. developments, but all are part of our mission: empower users
  26. to control technology.

  29. Another major part of our work consists of continuous engagement
  30. and background work. We are present at <a
  31. href="/events/events.html">dozens of conferences</a> per year,
  32. support and maintain an <a
  33. href="/contribute/contribute.html">excellent community</a> and
  34. provide it with helpful resources. Furthermore, we are a
  35. prominent contact point for all questions and enquiries around
  36. software freedom, Open Standards, and user rights.
