When looking at other websites again, I have the feeling that we should also include an “share by e-mail” button in our share menu. Lots of our supporters and contributors are still very e-mail focused, so my feeling is that we could enable more sharing of our news by having that button.
Hm okay, I think I never used it but we can have a try.
Could you please give me one or two examples of sites using such a button? In my bookmarks I only saw heise.de.
Noteworthy: I wouldn’t let a user send an email via a web form, there are too many pitfalls IMHO (spam, abuse, security). Instead I’d just use a mailto: link with a predefined subject (the title) and a body (the first paragraph perhaps).
For example the guardian website. E.g. https://www.theguardian.com/science/2017/oct/02/dna-in-the-dock-how-flawed-techniques-send-innocent-people-to-prison (also an interesting read ;) ).
OK, that would be even easier. The title as subject, the link as text body – optionally with a reference indicator (but some of our readers might dislike it).
I’ll take care of this in the next weeks as the share-button code is mostly my baby ;)
