In a second step for restructuring our activities, all folders under /activities/ should include a meta data file (currently project.**.xml).

In order to structurally collect meta data for all activities, the following steps should be taken:

  • Find out which folders are missing such a file
  • Extend the meta data with:
    • tags (policy, legal, pa, eu-project, potentially more)
    • priority (integer for rating the importance of the activity for display)
  • Add a representative picture/logo (square ratio) for each highlighted activity, and add to file
  • Document best practice for meta data file somewhere

Some remarks from my side:

  • I'm not sure about the tags at all. Do we have any specific ideas about how to use them in the end?
  • Originally, the date was only added to the XML files as a means to sort the projects "newest first". If we have the priority, we might be able to get rid of the date instead.

tags could be useful for radio-button, for example: show me all eu-projects

We could use the same filter feature as on the new team page, or use the localmenues to display all activities related to EU projects or legal topics. Given the amount of activities, and the sometimes quite unspecific names, this could be useful. But I would not overdo the tags, just keep them to 4-6 max.

Regarding the date, we already have this value for all activities with a projects file. And why not keeping it? The startdate is easy to figure out (while the end date isn't).

About the tags: +1 for the general idea. What would you think about integrating these tags with our news/events tagging, that would mean:

  1. listing the tags below the short description on the overview page, similar to https://fsfe.org/news/, and
  2. having the activities also listed on e.g. https://fsfe.org/tags/tagged-legal.html

As discussed with Reinhard a few days back, the initial tags would be "policy", "legal" and "public-awareness" according to our three pillars
