The list of local and country teams is incomplete on our website, at least compared to the wiki listing.

Adding new groups isn't hard. I explained the groundwork when I introduced the new people listing scheme. You should be able to copy/paste everything after adding/updating coordinators in the people.en.xml file.

Hi Max, thank you for your attention.

Two things here to consider: First is that it is generally questionable if we should have the same information double on our page and in the wiki or if it is more feasible to link to the wiki-page only.

Second, the list in the wiki is totally out of date with half of the groups not active anymore or maybe never existing.

So, I propose: remove the localteams.html and link to the wiki instead and update the wiki page with archiving outdated groups?

Yes, that sounds promising and is probably the better solution in the long run.

Would you like to take care of the Wiki update? I can update and link to the active (and inactive groups?) on this specific page afterwards.

ok, I updated the whole page now, also introduced a new category /CountryTeam and categorized the active/inactive groups to my current best knowledge. We should still verify one or the other group in there about their activity and also about adding more information (coordinator, contact etc). Also on this occasion I realised there is no country-team Germany in the wiki that should be fixed.

So long, please have a look and give some feedback we are on the right track. Thanks.

Looks really good, thanks! I'll take care of replacing the now duplicated information of localteams.html linking to this nice overview.

Would you like to ask and inform germany@? I also wasn't aware that the largest country team lacks a wiki page until now :)

please do not remove the localteams-page for now because I need that information for the updating of the wiki-page. Once this process is done, we can remove and re-link.

also I will ask de-coordinators to put a page

@doczkal @eal and me had some discussion about this, unfortunately async and without an agreement as far as I know. We had several pros and cons of listing local teams on our website, here's what I can remember from the top of my head:

Pro

  • Local groups receive a higher attention, it looks more official and serious
  • More motivating for groups to appear not only in the wiki

Con

  • Higher maintenance effort, higher probability to show outdated information
  • Some groups don't separate in coordinator and deputy, how to display those?
  • Groups may not feel responsible to update data on fsfe.org, just their wiki pages

I think this is a larger discussion point. In any case, it's important to have this documented and also remind local groups of keeping their wiki pages up-to-date, and inform us about personal changes.

I would prefer to keep the local group page as it is. My main point is the "official look" of the local groups page. Of course that means maintenance effort. But adding/removing entries for people from time to time should be doable.

If that is okay @max.mehl could you please close this issue?
