<li><strong>Usa gli standard:</strong> solo i formati aperti possono formare veri standard industriali, perché ogni formato proprietario è per sua natura una soluzione isolata. I formati aperti sono invece la spina dorsale dell'interoperabilità tra i differenti servizi.</li>
<li><strong>Diversificazione e localizzazione:</strong> le soluzioni e i protocolli del Software Libero molto spesso offrono più di un programma o più di una sola implementazione. Questo permette ai tuoi membri, impiegati o clienti di scegliere loro stessi come connettersi remotamente. In aggiunta, il Software Libero spesso è disponibile in molte lingue e localizzazioni, che può essere di grande aiuto se sei un'organizzazione internazionale.</li>
<li><strong>Fai da te:</strong> imposta la tua infrastruttura locale quando sei pronto, e scegli il software che tutti sono abituati ad usare. Approfitta dell'aiuto e della cultura della condivisione della conoscenza di una energica comunità.</li>
