Een potentieel gevaar voor Vrije Software-ontwikkelaars doemt op in de vorm van een lopende rechtszaak in het VK met betrekking tot Bitcoin en haar kern-ontwikkelaars.

<h3 id="danish-initiative">Initiatief van Deense lokale groep</h3>

De lokale FSFE-groep in Denemarken heeft een Open Brief gestuurd naar de IT-woordvoerders van alle politieke partijen in het Deense Parlement. In deze brief, met als titel “Digitaliseringsproblemen kunnen worden opgelost met Vrije/Open Bron Software”, wees de lokale groep op verschillende voorbeelden waarin het gebruik van propriëtaire software burgerrechten en privacy beschadigd. Eén voorbeeld is de sterke wens van gemeenten om propriëtaire software (Google Classroom) in scholen te gebruiken, waarbij privé-data van leerlingen, in strijd met de GDPR, actief worden gedeeld met Google.

<h3 id="germany-broadcasters">Duitsland: Publieke televisie-omroepen kondigen ‘Streaming OS’ aan als Vrije Software</h3>

De Duitse publieke omroepen ARD en ZDF hebben aangekondigd dat zij hun mediacentra in de toekomst zullen integreren en de betreffende code als Vrije Software zullen publiceren. Met als naam ‘Streaming OS’, zal de software onder een Vrije Softwarelicentie beschikbaar komen voor het algemene publiek.

De directeuren van de omroepen benadrukken in hun aankondiging dat door het publiceren van de code zij iets terug willen geven aan de samenleving, die er eerder voor betaald had. ARD en ZDF gaan dus in op het kernidee van ons FSFE-initiatief <a href="https://publiccode.eu/en/">‘Publiek Geld? Publieke Code!’</a>. We kijken uit naar het zien van Streaming OS en code in 2025!

Berlin en KDE Eco deel aan de editie-2024 van het Umweltsfestival (Milieufestival). Onze vrijwilligers legden aan de deelnemers van het festival het duurzame gebruik van computers met Vrije Software uit, evenals andere initiatieven zoals Android Opwaarderen en Publiek Geld? Publieke Code!. Ze gaven ook antwoorden op vragen over de Fediverse.
